At Feathered Acres Farm in Belgrade, Minn., my family and I raise hogs without crates, giving them room to move, socialize and express natural behaviors. We’ve built a market with customers who care about how their food is raised.

That’s why I’m asking Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith and Rep. Angie Craig to stand firm against the federal Save Our Bacon Act in the Farm Bill and attempts to “fix” Minnesota’s Proposition 12.

For farms like ours, Proposition 12 preserves a market for farmers who have invested time, money and years of work meeting consumer demand for higher-welfare pork.

Congress shouldn’t change the rules now at the expense of farmers who have adapted and found opportunity in this market. Consumers should be able to choose pork produced according to standards they support, and farmers should be free to meet that demand.

Leave Proposition 12 intact.
